We just received a message of the Somalian registry (.so) to inform us that the landrush for the .so extension will be postponed by 1 week. The landrush, which would originally have started on December 16th, has already been postponed once. The reason for this postponement was the hugh success of the sunrise period for this extension which made the registry decide to extend this sunrise period by 1 month. Because of this extension the sunrise ended on December 31st instead of on November 30th. At that time the registry decided to postpone the start of the landrush from December 16th until January 10th.
Due to precaution measures, the registry now decided to wait a week longer before starting the landrush. Below you’ll find the new dates:
During the landrush everyone who wishes to do so, can register a .so domain name. Registrations will only be completed at the beginning of March since the first come, first served principle doesn’t apply during this landrush. So it’s very well possible that 2 or more people apply for the same domain name. If this happens, those domain name will be sold during an auction after the landrush to the highest bidder. Only people who applied for the domain name can participate in the auction.
On April 1st 2011 the general availability will start. From then on, applications will be treated on a first come, first served basis. Everyone who wishes to do so, can register a .so domain name.
