First .xxx website has gone live
Today, the first .xxx website has gone love. casting.xxx is the first porn website which uses this new extension.
Although the sunrise for the .xxx domain only starts in September 7th 2011, the first website under this new extension has already gone live. Casting.xxx was registered to a Really Useful Ltd, one of the founders of the .xx extension. This company has lobbied to make ICANN approve the .xxx extension. Next to Really Useful Ltd, there are about 30 other companies which also lobbied for this new extension. They’ll soon also be able to launch their own .xxx website. This first .xxx website is mainly meant to create more interest for the .xxx extension.
The sunrise for this extension will begin on September 7th 2011 and end on October 28th 2011. The sunrise will be split into sunrise A and B which will run parallel:
– Sunrise A: If you want to register a domain name during sunrise A, you need to meet the following conditions:
- You’re a member of the Sponsored Community AND
- You’ve got a registered trademark OR
- You’ve got a registered domain name under another extension of which the registration was completed before February 2010
A member of the Sponsored Community is someone who already operates pornographic website. If you meet those conditions you can register your trademark or domain name under the .xxx extension.
If 2 or more applications would be filed for the same name, this name will be sold during an auction after the sunrise. Only those who filed a valid application can participate at this auction.
– Sunrise B: The following persons can file an application for a .xxx domain during sunrise B
- You aren’t a member of the Sponsored Community
- You’re the owner of a registered
If both a member and a non member of the Sponsored Community file an application, the member of the Sponsored Community will be given priority. He/she will however be informed that a non member wished to block this name.
The sunrise will be followed by a landrush and later on by the general availability.
