Norid considers to increase quota

Norid (.no registry) considers to increase their quota this autumn. Due to the current quota, Norwegian companies can only register 20 .no names per company. Norid however receives more and more complaints that 20 names isn’t enough.

Domain names under the .no extension can only be registered by Norwegian companies with a maximum of 20 names per company. Several Norwegian companies already raised issues with this number. If those companies wish to promote a product or a brand, this quota is a hindrance.

Norid has already indicated they’re looking for a solution. ‘We use this quota to ensure new applicants can also register interesting domain names,’ Norid says. ‘However, we are aware of the fact that this quota can cause problems for companies which have perfectly legitimate needs to register more than 20 domain names’, Norid adds.

That’s why the registry is investigating whether it would be possible to increase the quota this autumn. Since an increase will also give better conditions for domain pirates, we will at the same time look for simple measures that can strengthen the complaint procedures.
