A while ago we already posted an article about the creation of 3 new country codes (ccTLD’s) to represent the new nations created by the breakup of the Netherlands Antilles in October 2010. One of those extensions is the .sx-domain for the isle of Sint Maarten.

OpenRegistry entered an exclusive agreement with the governance of Sint Maarten. Together with MediaFusion Inc they will be responsible for the management of the .sx domain. Moreover it looks like OpenRegistry wants to promote this extension as an alternative for the .xxx domain. The .xxx domain has been and still is in the running to become the ‘adult’ extension on the Internet. However it’s ICANN who needs to make this decision and this has already taken quite some time now. However the .sx domain isn’t subject of ICANN decisions, which means it can be operational much quicker than the .xxx domain.

Of course we can’t be sure that .sx will be accepted as an alternative for the .xxx domain but given the fact it will be rather soon be on-line, it sure has a good shot at becoming an ideal alternative.
