.gent is coming

The .gent-registry has communicated the time line for the release of the .gent extension. The release will happen via 2 sunrises, followed by a landrush to end with the general availability.

The first sunrise-period will start on September 1st 2014 and end on October 1st 2014. During this sunrise owners of a registered trademark who applied their mark at the TradeMark ClearingHouse (TMCH) can file an application to register their mark under the .gent extension.

The second sunrise-period will begin on October 10th 2014 and ends on November 10th 2014. During this sunrise companies, individuals, non-profit organisations and regional governments from (the region around) Ghent can register a domain name under the .gent extension. To be able to do so, you first need to register yourself or your company at the .gent ClearingHouse. To register in this ClearingHosue, you need to live in Ghent or the region around this city. This means your zip code needs to start with a 9. If you register your personal name or your company name at the ClearingHouse, you’ll only be able to register your personal name or your company name under the .gent extension. During this sunrise the first come, first served principle applies.

The 2 sunrises will be followed by a landrush. This landrush starts on November 17th and ends on November 19th 2014. During this landrush everyone who wishes to do so can register a domain name under the .gent extension. The price for a registration during this phase will be higher. During this landrush the first come, first served principle also applies.

The final phase of the release of the .gent extension will be the general availability which will start on November 24th 2014. From then on, everyone can register a domain name under the .gent domain via the first come, first served principle.
