A while ago we already reported that the .gay extension was coming. Now it’s finally time. And .gay seems to have everything to conquer the world. Short, powerful, clear and they also do charity.
Every year thousands of people have a hard time accepting their sexual orientation, let alone making it known to the outside world.
Via the .gay extension you already get the chance to do your coming-out in an original way. Just register your own .gay domain name!
Your decision may encourage others to take the step. You also show that they can turn to you for support and good advice.
And if that isn’t enough, you also support charities with it!
20% of the proceeds from each .gay registration (with the exception of the sunrise registrations) is donated by the registry to charities that support the LGBTQ community.
GLAAD and CenterLink stand up for the LGBTQ community and fight for more rights of this community.
The .gay registry also focuses specifically on companies. And of course you as a company make a strong statement if you register your .gay name. You show that your company supports the LGBTQ community and you support charities with it. So a win-win situation.
The release of .gay will happen in 4 phases:
1) The first sunrise: from 10 February 2020 to 31 March 2020.
During this period only companies can register their domain name if their trademark has also been registered in the TradeMark ClearingHouse.
2) The second sunrise: from 6 April 2020 to 6 May 2020
The rules will become less strict during the second sunrise period. You still need to have a registered trademark but it should not be registered in the TradeMark ClearingHouse. Ideal for companies to register their .gay domain name.
3) Early Access Phase: from 11 to 18 May 2020.
During this period the registration prices are higher than with normal general availability, but you have a quicker chance of registering your domain name. The prices here fall daily.
4) General availability: from 20 May 2020
The grand finale, from now on anyone who wishes can register a name under the .gay extension.
The .gay registry checks every domain name for content. If a certain .gay domain name is used to distribute anti-LGBTQ content or if it is used to cause harm or to speak poorly about LGBTQ groups and individuals, then the registry immediately takes this domain name offline. Slander, hatred and threats are absolutely not allowed!
