On December 3rd Denic (.de-registry) introduces a grace period of 30 days for expired .de names. With the current procedure a .de-name becomes available for registration again immediately after he expired.

If you forget to renew your .de-name there’s a risk that someone else already registered your domain name before you’ve noticed it expired. That’s why Denic introduces a 30 days grace period.

This means that from December 3rd onwards, the owner of a .de-name will have 30 days to reactivate his expired domain name. So there’s no longer a risk someone else registers your domain name immediately. However the registry will charge an extra cost for such a reactivation. The reactivation fee will probably be around €30.
