CentralNic, the registry specialised in second level extensions like .eu.com and .uk.com, has just announced that there will be a simultaneous sunrise/landrush for .africa.com domain names starting August the 1st. It does very much look like CentralNic is doing its very best to get this launch done before people notice that soon there will be a possibility for registrations under the real TLD .africa.
It has been less than 3 weeks since CentralNic first announced they signed contracts with the owner of the domain name africa.com. On August the 1st, with not even as much as a two-day warning, they will already start accepting registrations under this second level “extension”. We can only suspect that also CentralNic is aware of the fact that, once the new gTLD’s start to go live in September/October, even less people will be interested in domain names under such second level extension like .africa.com.
