Lately there have been rumours about the liberalisation of the .al extension (Albania).
If you currently wish to register a domain name in Albania, you need to own a local address. However for a while now, there have been rumours that this local presence will soon no longer be a restriction to register a domain name under the .al extension. If so, the .al domain would follow the example of the .lu (Luxembourg) and the .fr domain (France) who, a few years ago, also decided to liberalise meaning local presence was no longer necessary for a domain name registration.

However we would like to emphasize there are only rumours at this point in time. We haven’t received any confirmation from the registry yet. As soon as we get more info about this, we’ll get back to you on this.
