On Wednesday November 21st 2012 Eurid (.eu registry) introduces a new procedure for the transfer and owner change of .eu domain names. Currently a transfer or trade has to be confirmed via email by the owner will disappear. Due to the new procedure there will no longer be a difference between a transfer (move the name to another registrar) and a trade (move the name to a new owner).

If you wish to transfer a .eu-name, you need to do the following. The current registrar asks his current registrar for the authorisation code of the .eu domain he wishes to transfer. Once he received this code, he needs to forward this to the new registrar who will then be able to continue the transfer. Once the new registrar has continued the transfer, this will be completed immediately. After the transfer, the registration period will be extended by a year.

If you wish to change the owner of a .eu name you need to follow the same procedure as mentioned above. All the new registrar has to do before he continues the owner change is linking the data of the new owner to the .eu domain name. The rest of the procedure will be exactly the same as for a regular transfer.

If a transfer or trade needs to be started and the current registrar doesn’t provide you the code (for instance, you can’t reach him or he can’t provide you the code in time), the current owner can also contact Eurid directly and ask them to provide him the code. If the current owner does that, he’ll need to proof he did quite an effort to reach the current registrar. Eurid will examine the application and then provide the code.

These new procedures will be introduced on November 21st 2012. Pending transfers will be completed via the old procedure (so via email confirmation). For transfers and trades that are initiated that day or later on, the new procedures will apply.
