In July 2009 66,129 new .eu names were registered. This is a rise of 15% compared to July 2008.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;We&#8217;re very pleased the third quarter took of so well for .eu. This is a reminder of the strong value of the .eu domain,&#8217; says Marc Van Wesemael, General Manager of Eurid (the .eu registry). &#8216;Moreover we also notice that people who register a .eu name want to keep it and keep using it,&#8217; adds Van Wesemael.<\/p>\n<p>If we look at the numbers, Van Wesemael seems to be right. During the second quarter of 2009, 81% of the .eu names were renewed. Moreover for only 1 out of 100 .eu names a ownerchange (a so-called trade) was requested.
