Nominet manages the registrations under the .co.uk, .org.uk and .net.uk domain but is now considering to offer the possibility to register domain names directly under .uk. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"result_box\" lang=\"en\"><!--more--><span class=\"hps\">The<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">survey<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">which<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the registry currently<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">holds<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">under its<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">registrars<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">will end on <\/span><span class=\"hps\">January 7, 2013<\/span><span>.<\/span> Via this survey the registry is checking whether the registrars agree local presence will be required for a .uk registration, if DNSSEC needs to be an obligation or an option for such registration and how the registry must deal with malware.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"hps\">Further<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">it also checks <\/span><span class=\"hps\">how<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">the registry should manage the release of<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">this domain<\/span><span class=\"hps\"><\/span><span>.<\/span> Should there be a sunrise and a landrush or should the first come, first served rule apply immediately?\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">Important<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">to know is<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">that<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">people<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">who already have a<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">name<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">under the.<\/span> .c<span class=\"hps\">o.uk<\/span><span>, <\/span><span>.o<\/span><span class=\"hps\">rg.uk<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">or .n<\/span><span class=\"hps\">et.uk<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">domain<\/span><span>,<\/span> can\u00a0<span class=\"hps\">simply<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">maintain their name<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">and<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">will<\/span> not <span class=\"hps\">be<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">required<\/span> to register this name directly under .uk. <span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"hps\">After 7<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">January the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">registry<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">will take a look at all the<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">answers <\/span><span class=\"hps\">and on this basis<\/span> they&#8217;ll elaborate <span class=\"hps\">a further<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">policy for <\/span><span>.<\/span>u<span class=\"hps\">k<\/span> registrations.<span><\/span> <span class=\"hps\">Currently<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">it seems<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">that<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">registrations under the .uk domain will become possible anywat but <\/span><span class=\"hps\">there<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">will<\/span> <span class=\"hps\">be <\/span><span class=\"hps\">stricter conditions<\/span> for such registrations<span class=\"hps\"><\/span><span>.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Currently Nominet (.uk registry) is holding a survey among its registrars to determine how much interest there is for the implementation of the .uk domain.
